Forklift maintenance can effectively extend the lifespan of the forklift and ensure safe operation, allowing the forklift to always be in the best working condition. In some logistics distribution centers and warehouses with extremely high logistics efficiency requirements, due to the large daily shipment volume, forklifts are almost always in a 24-hour working state. So how can we perform simple maintenance on the forklift to ensure our work efficiency?
1. Regularly replace worn-out tires. This is a necessary task, just like in sports cars. Due to full-load operation, the tires are severely worn out. Therefore, for car races, better tires must be used after a certain distance to continue the race. The same applies to forklifts. For example, internal combustion forklifts and electric forklifts all use tires. If the tires are worn out too much or split, the forklift will not be stable during operation, causing significant vibrations. This will cause great damage to the electrical system and hydraulic system. Therefore, when choosing a forklift, in addition to choosing more wear-resistant tires, we should also pay attention to the material and type of the wheels when choosing the forklift. Whether it is a shock-absorbing wheel or a load-bearing wheel, and the characteristics of their materials and hardness (for example: polyurethane wheels are often used in indoor forklifts, such as electric handling vehicles and electric stacker trucks, because they are wear-resistant and have low noise, while shock-absorbing wheels are used in situations where the ground is not very flat).
2. Keep the working environment of the forklift clean, and also pay attention to the cleaning of the forklift itself. The working environment of the forklift, such as warehouses and production workshops, usually has some debris such as wood pallet fragments, cling film, garbage, rags, production waste, etc. These debris getting stuck on the wheels or tires of the forklift, especially for manual handling vehicles and manual stacker trucks, will have a profound impact on work efficiency. Therefore, we should frequently check and remove these debris to minimize their impact on the forklift's operation. And we should also frequently clean the ground of the forklift's working area, and even consider using plastic pallets or metal pallets instead of wood pallets.
3. Add hydraulic oil and lubricating oil in time. Forklift machinery requires frequent maintenance, and insufficient hydraulic oil will cause the forklift to fail to reach its rated height and load capacity, which will also affect work efficiency.
4. Operate the forklift according to the forklift operation manual. Do not make mistakes. Minor mistakes may damage the forklift, while serious mistakes may lead to forklift accidents.
5. Reduce impact damage. In very narrow aisles, it is important to arrange trained forklift drivers to work in this section, and pay attention to the vibration alarm and turning indicator lights to avoid injuring people.
6. Allocate more time to train your forklift operators, teaching them safety knowledge. This can reduce the damage rate to the forklift itself and the goods, and also significantly reduce the forklift failure rate.
7. Arrange preventive maintenance. It is best to formulate a maintenance plan and regularly maintain the forklift. In the long run, formulating a maintenance plan and implementing it can save a lot of money. This can prevent major component failures and also avoid many expensive repair costs, extending the lifespan of your forklift.
8. Have strict forklift management systems. When the forklift is not in use, please remove the key to avoid other non-operational personnel making mistakes and causing unnecessary damage. Inform the operators that during the forklift operation, for some narrow aisles, they must first get off the vehicle to measure the width of the aisle to estimate whether the forklift and the goods can pass safely.
