Forklifts are classified into several types. Here are 8 common classifications of forklifts

The world's first forklift was launched by CLARK Equipment Company in 1924. After multiple design integrations, the forklift industry technology is now very mature. Forklifts are one of the most widely used industrial vehicles in the industrial field. At present, there are various types of forklifts, each with its own characteristics. According to the operation mode, forklifts can be classified into eight categories, namely pallet forklifts, stacker forklifts, counterbalanced forklifts, reach trucks, picking forklifts, off-road forklifts, heavy-duty forklifts and telescopic boom forklifts.

Pallet forklift
Pallet forklifts have a compact structure and are easy to operate. They are available in both manual and electric versions and are mainly used for flat transportation in production lines and warehouses. Due to their small size, they can operate in narrow Spaces.

Stacker forklift
Stacker forklifts are similar to pallet forklifts, but they are equipped with lifting devices and are wheeled handling vehicles capable of loading, unloading, stacking, and short-distance transportation of palletized goods in pieces. It is mainly applied to the rapid handling, lifting, stacking and shelf storage of light goods within a plane, with a maximum lifting capacity of up to 5 meters.

Counterbalanced forklift
Counterbalanced forklifts are currently the most widely used type of forklift. The forks are located outside the center line of the front wheels, and a counterweight is installed at the rear of the forklift. At present, there are two types of forklifts: internal combustion forklifts and electric forklifts. Internal combustion forklifts currently account for 80% of the market share. They have sufficient horsepower and a long operating time. However, their disadvantages include high noise and pollution. At present, electric forklifts are generally used for indoor work. They feature low noise and no pollution, and are widely applied in the transportation of food and other materials in cold storage.

Reach truck
The reach truck is a type of warehouse vehicle. According to the operation mode, it can be divided into seated reach truck and standing reach truck. Reach trucks have a relatively small lifting capacity and are often driven by electric motors. Electric reach trucks feature high maneuverability, easy operation, no pollution and low noise.

Picking forklift
Picking forklifts, also known as cargo picking forklifts, are mainly composed of lifting systems, body systems and electrical systems. The operator can stand on the channel to control it, facilitating the up and down picking of materials. The lifting height of the picking forklift is 4 to 6 meters, making it suitable for narrow aisles and high-rise shelves in warehouses.

Off-road forklift
Off-road forklifts, also known as field forklifts, are a type of special vehicle with strong off-road capabilities. They are suitable for loading and unloading in material distribution centers with poor road conditions and possess strong off-road performance, mobility and reliability. Off-road forklifts are generally powered by internal combustion diesel engines. Diesel engines have large torque, high thermal efficiency, high power, and emit much less harmful gases than gasoline engines, making them relatively environmentally friendly.

Heavy-duty forklift
Heavy-duty forklifts, as the name suggests, have a very strong rated load capacity, with a lifting capacity of over 13 tons. Heavy-duty forklifts, container forklifts, and container stackers all fall under the category of heavy-duty forklifts. They are less commonly used in daily life and are generally applied in heavy industry and container handling and stacking in ports.

Telescopic boom forklift
A telescopic boom forklift is a type of forklift equipped with a telescopic boom, and its forks or attachments are usually installed on the boom, capable of performing lifting or forking operations on goods. The forks of this type of forklift can cross obstacles, pass through openings, etc. for loading and unloading operations, and can also perform stacking and unstacking of multiple rows of goods under complex working conditions. The telescopic boom forklift has a good forward view and a relatively low requirement for the clear height of the passage. Sometimes, it can also be classified within the range of off-road forklifts.

At present, forklifts can be roughly classified into these 8 categories. The production and application of forklifts have greatly liberated labor and improved production efficiency.
